DE PARIS A LA MER. VOYAGE D'UN PETIT PARISIEN.

Folio (10¼" x 13¼"). pp. 293. A signed binding design by Léon Rudnicki engraved (and signed) by Paul Souze in green, black, yellow, white, gold and silver on brick red cloth of the river Seine winding through the French countryside to Paris in the distance. A barge with sails and oars is in the foreground with the motto of the City of Paris, "Fluctuat Nec Mergitur" ("Tossed but not sunk") emblazoned on its foresail. Includes black and white engraved illustrations as textual vignettes as well as full page and half page illustrations on almost every page, and an alphabetical index of localities and views located on the edge of the Seine. Part of the "Voyage d'un Petit Parisien" series of books for children by Société Française D'Éditions D'Art, that explored French cities and countryside. Printed in Paris by Philippe Renouard, one of the great bibliographers of the nineteenth century, who became a printer in 1892. A very good + copy of this rare example of Rudnicki's Art Nouveau masterpiece, whose text block has been professionally resewn due to the deterioration of the staples originally used to bind the book; the original endpapers were relaid. Rubbing to the extremities and the spine titles, faint scratches to the bottom of the front board, and a slight bump to the top of the front board. Exceptionally scarce.
