Includes colored frontis., and 23 additional full page colored illustrations by Thomas Rowlandson. marbled eps. t.e.g. Part of Methuen's Illustrated Pocket Library of Plain and Coloured Books, and is based on the 1st edition published by Ackermann in 1820. The Doctor Syntax series was a satire on "travel" and "journey" books of the period that were overly moralizing, romantic and rapturous. Interestingly, Rowlandson drew the illustrations first, and Coombe wrote the poetry to accompany them. Light scattered foxing throughout that grows heavier at the prelims. Light foxing to edges.
